Shoulder Dystocia

Shoulder dystocia occurs when the anterior shoulder of the fetus can not be delivered (without manipulation) past the symphysis pubis.

Every midwife and obstetrician must be able to correctly identify and manage shoulder dystocia in order to minimise the chance of fetal compromise.
